Jason L. Deem
Jason L. Deem has been named Director of Bands for Union City the Union City School system. He has enjoyed teaching in Union City Schools since 2005. Mr. Deem will be responsible for guiding the 350 band students and extensive staff involved in the instrumental music program of the district. Jason is in the process of building a top notch staff who honor the heritage and continue the vigorous pursuit of excellence that is synonymous with all Union City Band programs. Mr. Deem has been integral to the pedagogical development that has led to a world class learning environment for students in all facets of the program. Throughout his career his ensembles have consistently received awards for excellence on the concert stage and marching field.
Jason earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Masters Degree in Education with emphasis in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Jason Deem is a clinician and adjudicator for bands throughout the Southeast United States.Mr. Deem is Past President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is a member of the West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, Tennessee Music Educators Association, and Tennessee Bandmasters Association.
A native of Rutherford, Tennessee, Mr. Deem marched with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps for the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Before his tenure at Union City Jason began his teaching career at Lexington High School in Lexington, Tennessee and was later the Director of Bands at Gibson County High School in Dyer, Tennessee where his bands received numerous awards including the Tennessee Governor’s Cup.
Mr. Deem resides in Union City and is a member of First Baptist Church. He is the father of two lovely daughters, Makinlee and Kadence.
He is a native of Fort Branch, Indiana who earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Murray State University. Mr. Ryan Wilkerson is the Assistant Band Director at Union City Middle and High Schools in addition to being the Director of Percussion Studies at Union City High School. Prior to his coming to Union City he previously served for seven years as the Director of Percussion and Assistant Band Director at Henry County High School in Paris, Tennessee. Mr. Wilkerson has worked with band programs in Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, and Indiana. Ryan’s work in Indiana has been recognized at the state level with ISSMA Class Champions Forest Park High School and Western High School.

Ryan is married to Ashley Wilkerson, and has one daughter named Leah Kate.
An active designer and adjudicator, J.R. Seals consults with several organizations throughout the Mid- South Region. He is a proud member of the Marching Roundtable Judges Academy where he studied under Dr. Joe Allison. His concepts have entertained, provoked, and inspired generations of students, directors, instructors, and fans. He considers himself first and foremost as a fan of the marching arts activity. He is known for encouraging teachers to “plan for success”. His engagement, and commentary are respectful and always rooted in a selfless desire to maximize each and every performance.
J.R. has led the creative development of Union City High School in Union City, Tennessee since 2001. Under his leadership, Union City has been awarded Nine Bands of America Regional and Super Regional Class Championships in Atlanta, Indianapolis, Murfreesboro, and St. Louis. Union City has appeared in Finals on five occasions at the Middle Tennessee State University Contest of Champions and in 2016 the band was nominated for the Sudler Shield Small Schools Award presented by the John Phillip Sousa Foundation.
Mr. Seals also works with several other groups through his firm JRSeals Concepts. With his involvement, clients have achieved numerous successes at the local, regional, and State Championship levels. He is the founder and managing editor for TennesseeMarching.com and serves as contest director for the Union City Invitational Marching Championships. He studied Business and Organizational Management at Bethel University and resides in Union City, Tennessee where he is the Clothing Buyer for 5 Seasons Mens Shops Inc.
Laney Rogers is the Color Guard Director for the the Union City High School Band. She earned her Masters Degrree in Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin and is a Special Education Teacher at Union City Elementary. An alumnus of the UCHS Band program and has been the Color Guard Director and Choreographer since 1999 . Under her leadership the Union City Color Guard has earned countless Awards and Championships throughout Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Indiana. Laney is married to Michael Rogers and they reside in Union City, Tennessee with their daughter Ada.
